Chionochloa flavescens subsp. brevis Connor

Leaf-sheath to 20 cm, mostly purpled, internerves and margins hairy. Leaf-blade to 130 cm × 10 mm, adaxially with weft of short hairs at base and abundant prickle-teeth above. Inflorescence to 30 cm, glabrous except for long hairs at branch axils and some stiff hairs below spikelets. Lemma to 6 mm; hairs dense on margins and in internerves, > sinus; lateral lobes usually awned. Anthers 6 mm. Plate 10A.

S.: Southern Marlborough to headwaters of Waitaki River. On open rubbly sites in grassland and scrub; to 1500 m.
