Pertusaria subverrucosa

Lectotype: New Zealand. Sine loco [? Wellington], W. Colenso 4694 ex Herb. Hooker – BM [fide Galloway (1985a: 380)]. Isolectotype – H-NYL 22964.

Pertusaria callispora. Holotype: New Zealand. Wellington, Table Top, Tararua Ra., c. 1000 m, ix.1933, E.E. Chamberlain ZA193 – W [fide Galloway (1985a: 380)]. Isotype – CHR 374710.

Description : Flora (1985: 379–380).

Chemistry : K+ yellow→red, C−, KC+ red, Pd+ orange; containing norstictic and ±connorstictic acids.

N: Wellington. S: Canterbury (Banks Peninsula), Otago (Central Otago Mountains). St: On rocks, both coastal and on schist in dry, ±subalpine habitats; probably more widespread than records show.

Pertusaria subverrucosa is characterised by: the saxicolous habit; the yellowish-ochre to fawn or dingy-white, verrucose-areolate to wrinkled–plicate–areolate thallus; verruciform apothecia with punctiform-depressed black ostioles, 1–3 per verruca; 2-spored asci; ellipsoidal ascospores, 190–245(–280) × 45–85 μm; and norstictic acid (K+ yellow→red).
