ξRostraria cristata (L.) Tzvelev ξTufts 20-40 cm. Leaf-blade flat, 4-16 cm × 1.5-5 mm, narrowly tapered, pubescent. Culm geniculate or erect, internodes glabrous. Panicle dense, spike-like, 1.5-9 cm, cylindric or somewhat lobed. Spikelets c. 3.5 mm, 4-flowered, laterally compressed. Glumes pubescent, unequal; lower c. ¾ length of upper and much narrower. Lemma 5-nerved, keeled, with subapical straight awn (c. 0.5 mm). This Eurasian species has been collected in N.Z. twice; WELT 71125, 71127 T. Kirk Great Barrier Id, Dec. 1867 and CHR 33183 A. J. Healy Railway Yards, Wellington, Dec. 1940.
