Helictotrichon pubescens

ξHelictotrichon pubescens (Huds.) Pilg.

ξHelictotrichon pubescens (Huds.) Pilg. ξPlants c. 65 cm. Leaf-blade softly long-hairy. Panicle 10-12 cm; branches slender, flexuous, sparsely scabrid. Spikelets c. 25 mm, 2-flowered and with a rudimentary floret at tip of densely villous rachilla. Glumes membranous, keeled. Lemma chartaceous below, hyaline above near denticulate tip, minutely scabrid; awn 15-20 mm, twisted below. This Eurasian species was collected in N.Z. at the end of 19th Century. Only two collections have been seen: CHR 183865 G. M. Thomson Waikari, and CHR 3422 D. Petrie Dunedin, [also WELT 71121 (dated 1886), WELT 71122].
