Zea mays
ξZea mays L. ξ, maize, has been twice collected from the wild; from a roadside near the Piako River, north of Matamata E. K. Cameron 3435 19.5.1985 (AKU 18409); and from Levin, beside railway line F. C. Duguid 20.5.1976 (CHR 510874). However, Z. mays is an entirely domesticated plant originating in Central America and cultivated since prehistoric times and is unlikely to survive long out of cultivation.
