Hemarthria altissima
ξHemarthria altissima (Poir.) Stapf et C.E.Hubb. ξPerennial with creeping rhizome. Culms to 100 cm, branched, reddish. Leaf-blade narrow. Inflorescence a rigid curved raceme terminating a culm branch, but branches often in clusters, with several from each node subtended by a spathe-like bract; racemes c. 10 cm, with paired spikelets, 6-8 mm, all similar and appressed to rachis; pedicel fused with rachis internode and pedicelled spikelet appearing sessile. An African species collected once from Kaitaia R. H. Matthews Apr. 1935 (CHR 18503). H. altissima persists in the abandoned nursery at the Kaikohe Research Station (W. Harris in litt.).
