Epilobium dawbinii Allan

E. dawbinii Allan sp. nov. 

Type: BD 76099, W. Dawbin, scrub edge, 14/2/43.

Main stem hard and woody, from woody stock, erect up to 20 cm. long; branches woody at base, opp., spreading at base then ascending, up to ± 15 cm. long, fairly bifariously pubescent, slender. Lvs opp., except in floral region, on petioles 1-2 mm. long. Lamina ovate-oblong to elliptic, 10-15 × 4-7 mm., subcoriac., glab.; margins rather obscurely denticulate. Fls? Capsules 20-30 mm., slender, glab., dark red to purple; peduncles ± 40 mm. long, slender, glab. Seeds very minutely papillose.

DIST.: Enderby Id (Auckland Is).

Somewhat resembling E. chloraefolium but stouter and more woody.
