Tillaea pusilla Kirk

T. pusilla Kirk Stud. Fl. 1899, 143.

Type: W, with label: "Tillaea pusilla T. Kirk. Stud. Fl. N.Z. Auckland. Mr Cheeseman(?)".

Small matted herb up to 2 cm. tall, with delicate pale green stems and branches; internodes us. not > 5 mm. Lvs (1)-1·5-1·75-(2) mm., thin, linear to linear-lanceolate, obtuse to subacute. Fls ± 1·75 mm. diam.; peduncles short, slightly thickening towards apex; calyx with deep ovate-oblong acute lobes. Petals > calyx lobes, oblong to ovate-oblong. Scales 4, linear-cuneate to narrow-spathulate. Carpels turgid; style recurved. Seeds 2-4 per carpel.

Kirk, loc. cit., describes his var. brevia : "Peduncles usually shorter than the leaves, not thickened upwards. Carpels more obtuse. North Island: Wairoa Falls, Hunua, T. K. Near T. sinclairii, but even more delicate, the carpels less obtuse and the style oblique." Type: specimens in W labelled as var. brevia Wairoa Falls, Hunua. Dec. 1868, T. Kirk.
