Tillaea helmsii Kirk

Type locality: near Greymouth. Type: W, R. Helms.
Small herb forming dense to loose patches; stems prostrate and rooting below, ascending at tips, up to 16 cm. long; branches ascending, inter- nodes up to 1 cm.; lvs (3)-3·5-5·25 mm. long, succulent, linear, upper acute, lower ± obtuse. Fls 2-3 mm. diam.; peduncles very short; calyx lobes deep, ovate, acute; petals white, distinctly > sepals, narrowly ovate-oblong, obtuse to subacute. Scales 4, narrow-linear, cuneately narrowed to base. Carpels turgid; styles short, ± recurved. Seeds 3-5 per carpel.
DIST.: S. Coastal rocks, cliffs, beaches on west from lat. 41° to 42° 30'.
