Nardeae

NARDEAE

Perennials. Ligule membranous. Leaf-blade setaceous, involute. Inflorescence a unilateral spike, the spikelets all alike and borne edgeways to rachis, with the lemma opposed to a shallow hollow in the tough rachis but not embedded. Spikelets 1-flowered, ⚥, dorsally compressed; disarticulation above glumes; rachilla not prolonged. Glumes persistent, very reduced; lower very small, upper suppressed or almost so. Lemma 3-nerved; awn terminal. Palea 2-keeled. Lodicules 0. Stamens 3. Ovary glabrous; style 1. Caryopsis fusiform; embryo small; hilum linear.
