Eucalyptus sieberi
ζ*E. sieberi L. Johnson ζ* is sometimes cultivated in N.Z. and has been collected wild in the Waikumete Cemetery, Glen Eden, Auckland, reported from the Waikato and collected regenerating freely in parts of the Whakarewarewa State Forest Park, Rotorua. It is distinguished from the related E. delegatensis by the pinkish brown flaky bark of the saplings and in the mature tree by the hard persistent flaky bark which is rather compact with a tendency to furrow, the more symmetric lvs, usually smaller fl. buds, smaller frs 4-7 mm diam., and by flowering in spring. It has been previously known in N.Z. as E. sieberana. (S.E. Australia, Tasmania, 1957).
