Cladonia rei

Description : Flora (1985: 119).

Chemistry : Cortex K−, KC−, Pd+ red or −; containing homosekikaic acid (UV+ white) ±fumarprotocetraric acid.

N: South Auckland (S of Rotorua, Taupo), Wellington (Tiritea Stream). S: Nelson (Nelson Lakes), Marlborough (Wash River bridge), Canterbury (Governor's Bush). On soil in Leptospermum scrub and heath. Known also from Africa (Swinscow & Krog 1988) and India (Ahti et al. 2002).

Cosmopolitan

Cladonia rei is similar to C. ochrochlora in its irregular, sorediate, granular-squamulose podetia. It is distinctive in having characteristic, tulip-shaped apothecia and homosekikaic and accessory fumarprotocetraric acids.
