Cassinia vauvilliersii var. canescens (Cockayne) Allan
C. albida var. canescens Ckn. in T.N.Z.I. 38, 1906, 369.
Type: W, Cockayne.
Branchlets and lvs clad in white tomentum; lvs up to 2 cm. long, very glutinous when young, upper surface retaining white tomentum when mature.
DIST.: S. Range and habitats of var. albida.
Var. rubra (Buchan.) Kirk Stud. Fl. 1899, 315. C. rubra Buchan. in T.N.Z.I. 19, 1887, 216. Lvs linear-oblong, 4-7 mm. long; phyll. bright pink or red. Dist.: "Reported as collected on the Wanganui River, inland", (Buchanan, loc. cit.). Known only from the type collection. Phyll. ± tinged with red in the apical parts are not infrequent in both C. vauvilliersii and C. fulvida. The status of Buchanan's plant remains uncertain.
The whole complex needs attention in comparison with the type, not seen by me.
