Type locality: Otago Lake District, "subalpine". Type: K, no. 15, Hector and Buchanan, 1864.

Stems prostrate, branchlets ascending, forming rather dense flattened patches. Lvs densely imbricate, spreading from erect base, 3-4 mm. long, 3-nerved, broadly ovate; apex thickened, obtuse to apiculate; upper portion clad in appressed silvery tomentum; basal portion glab., scarious, 3-nerved. Capitula c. 4 mm. diam.; inner phyll. narrow-oblong, stramineous, margins scarious, tips not white, not radiate. Florets 10-18, ♀ few. Achenes < 1 mm. long, pubescent; pappus-hairs rigid, 3-4 mm. long, distinctly thickened at tips.

DIST.: S. Subalpine and alpine rocky ground and fellfield from lat. 43° 30' to 45° 30', east of divide.
