Angophora costata

ζ*Angophora costata (Gaertner) Britten

ζ*Angophora costata (Gaertner) Britten ζ*, smooth-barked apple, is occasionally cultivated in warmer parts of the country as an ornamental and has been collected wild in scrubland at Hobsonville, near Auckland, not far from a planted parent tree. A large tree with smooth, deciduous, pinkish bark; lvs opposite, eucalyptus-like, lanceolate; capsules broad-obovoid, 7- c. 10 mm diam. across the truncate apex; valves enclosed; calyx teeth persistent and small, prolonged as 5 acute ribs down the hypanthium, sometimes with a secondary rib between. (N.S.W., 1987).
