Senecio remotifolius

Type locality: "open rocky places near mouth of Mokau River". Type: W, 616, W. A. Thomson.

Shrub up to 2 m. tall; branches rather few, widely spreading. Lvs broad-elliptic, 10-13 × 6-7·5 cm., on slender petioles about = lamina-length, subacute, subcoriac., obscurely sinuate; nearly glab. above except on midrib and main veins, clad in pale yellow to greyish tomentum below. Panicles up to 15 cm. long, rhachis zigzag, branchlets divaricating, clad in white tomentum; lower bracts foliaceous. Capitula discoid, up to 1 cm. diam.; phyll. linear, tomentose. Florets c. 12, limb narrow funnel-shaped, 5-toothed, segs revolute. Achenes linear, shortly pilose.

DIST.: N.

Status uncertain. Described and known only from a specimen grown in the late Mr. Thomson's garden near Dunedin, but stated by R. O. Green to be still present in the original locality in October 1955.
