Ranunculus biternatus Sm.

R. biternatus Smith in Rees Cyclop. 29, 1814, n.48.

R. crassipes Hook. f. Fl. Antarct. 2, 1847, 224, t.81.

Glab. succulent herb with creeping stems rooting at the nodes. Petioles 2-10 cm. long; lamina cordate-reniform in outline, 8-25 mm. diam. or more; 3-lobed to 3-partite; segs narrow- to broad-cuneate, irregularly toothed. Peduncles stout < lvs; fls 6-9 mm. diam. Sepals 4-5, ovate, obtuse, membr.; petals 4-5, yellow, obovate-spathulate; gland 1 a little below middle. Fruiting heads globose, 7-9 mm. diam.; achenes turgid, broad-ovate in outline; style short, straight.

DIST.: M. Swampy places in lower part. Also in Fuegia, Falkland Is., South Georgia, Kerguelen, Crozet Is, Marion Id, New Amsterdam.
