Xanthoparmelia melanobarbatica

Holotype: New Zealand, South I. Canterbury, Top Hut, Godley Peaks, H.H. Allan – CHR 160296.

Description : Flora (1985: 305 – as Neofuscelia melanobarbatica).

Chemistry : Cortex K−, HNO3± dark blue-green; medulla K−, C−, KC+ orange-yellow, Pd−, UV−; containing barbatic acid and 4- O -demethylbarbatic acid (tr.).

S: Canterbury (Godley Peaks Station). On rocks in alpine grassland.

Endemic

Xanthoparmelia melanobarbatica is distinguished from X. bulfiniana in the flat lobes with a pale-tan to brown lower surface (in X. bulfiniana the lobes are convex and the lower surface is black). Both taxa contain medullary barbatic acid.
